Traditional fiddle maestro Kevin Burke – hailed as one of the greatest fiddlers of this or any generation – will perform at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar this Thursday, February 20, at 8pm.
For nearly four decades, he has been at the forefront of Irish traditional music and Celtic music, performing and recording with the groups The Bothy Band, Patrick Street and Celtic Fiddle Festival. In 2002, Burke was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, the highest honour given in the United States for folk and traditional arts.
In addition to his solo albums, Burke has had successful project collaborations with Christy Moore, Andy Irvine and Paul Brady, Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, Jackie Daly, Ged Foley and Cal Scott.
His solo performances of flawless unaccompanied fiddle, delivered with humorous stories of the tunes and their makers, are an absolute delight. Kevin’s easy and welcoming manner leaves the audience feeling like privileged guests, and his fiddle playing is a dynamic melodic force, the voice of the master.
Tickets (€16/€14 each) are available from Linenhall Arts Centre box office on 094 9023733 or online at www.thelinenhall.com.
